May is Mental Health Awareness month, and according to the World Health Organization, an estimated 264 million people are affected by depression worldwide. That said, managing one’s mental health can be a challenge for many during even normal circumstances. Now, the isolation and insecurity surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated that challenge. In fact, a survey from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) from mid-2020 found that US adults reported considerably elevated adverse mental health conditions associated with the pandemic—40.9% of those surveyed were suffering symptoms of either depression or anxiety.
Compounding the situation, stay-at-home orders and the need for social distancing placed limitations on patients’ ability to be seen by mental health professionals in traditional in-person settings.
Appian and our partner Ignyte are working to combat these mental health statistics and get assistance to those in need, wherever they may be.
Leveraging the Appian industry-leading dynamic case management, Ignyte created their Mental Health Case Management solution. This solution allows for virtual mental health assessments and visits, along with real-time messaging for when patients need assistance outside of their virtual appointment times. Available on mobile and desktop devices, patients using Ignyte’s solution can also trust their medical information is secure on the Appian HIPAA-compliant cloud.
